What is the Missouri CORE42?
The Missouri Higher Education Core Transfer Curriculum is a recommended lower-division core curriculum of forty-two semester credit hours intended to facilitate student transfer among Missouri’s public institutions of higher education. All public colleges and universities have adopted the Core Transfer Curriculum, commonly known as CORE42.  Independent colleges and universities can join the CORE42 agreement and may currently honor transfer course equivalency.

With student success in mind, Jefferson College has designed the Associate of Arts degree in accordance with the CORE42.   
     
How the Missouri CORE42 can help students transfer?  
The CORE42 will affect students depending on what level of coursework is accomplished before transfer.  There are three types of transfers:

1.  Transfer after completion of the Associate of Arts degree
Students who complete the Associate of Arts degree at a Missouri community college and transfer to a Missouri public university shall have completed all lower-division general education requirements at the receiving institution.  Students who complete the CORE42 with MOTR courses shall receive full credit for general education fulfillment.  The receiving institution cannot require the student take any additional lower-division general education courses.  The student may, however, have to take additional lower-division courses to fulfill prerequisite, program or institutional requirements.  Making well-planned decisions about general education and elective course options at Jefferson College will minimize this. Students are expected to communicate with their transfer institutions to be informed about the best general education and elective course options.  Earning good grades in the MOTR courses will minimize the need for repeating courses. 

2. Transfer after completion of the CORE42
Students who complete the CORE42 at any public institution shall be considered as having completed all lower-division general education requirements at a receiving institution. Students shall receive full credit for general education fulfillment for completion MOTR courses transferred. The receiving institution cannot require the student take any additional lower-division general education courses. The student may, however, have to take additional lower-division courses to fulfill prerequisite, program or institutional requirements.  Earning good grades in the MOTR courses will minimize the need for repeating courses. 

3. Transfer without completing the Associate of Arts degree or CORE42 
Students shall receive credit at a receiving institution for each MOTR course completed at a sending institution.  Students shall receive full credit toward general education fulfillment for all MOTR courses transferred.  After receiving credit for MOTR courses, the student shall complete the CORE 42 at the receiving institution.  Non-CORE42 courses will be considered on an individual basis.  Earning good grades in the CORE42 courses will minimize the need for repeating courses. 
 
What are MOTR courses?
The State of Missouri has approved CORE42 courses at every public college and university.  The courses are identified as MOTR courses (MOTransfer).   Jefferson College’s approved MOTR courses are identified with the symbol in the course description found on the course schedule and the college catalog.
