Construction Trades Professional Education Units (PEUs)

Jefferson County tradesmen are required to earn a total of 12 Professional Education Units (PEUs) every 3 years. We offer a wide variety of courses for each trade. If you require assistance with course advising or registration, you may contact Workforce and Employment Services at: (636) 481-3144.

The courses are approved by the Jefferson County Code Enforcement Office and St Louis County.


HVAC Courses

HVAC Mechanical Code (PD3-967)     

This course is designed for HVAC professionals with an emphasis on the mechanical code and meets the requirement for professional development for HVAC contractors. Many municipalities require someone licensed to install equipment which requires advanced skills, knowledge, and experience to install correctly. Permits are required and only a licensed HVAC or Electrical master can apply for the permits in some jurisdictions. The following is a general overview of the mechanical code and what it covers for safe and proper installation of HVAC air conditioning and heating equipment. NOTE: This course is worth 24 Contact Hours and a total of 12 PEUs (Professional Education Units), as approved by the Jefferson Country Code Enforcement Board.

Fuel Gas Codes and Pipe Sizing (PD3-986)


The Fuel Gas Codes and Pipe Sizing course is based on the International Fuel Gas Code, and is intended for HVAC professionals who install and service heating systems and appliances. The course will cover administration and code enforcement, general regulations, sizing, installations, chimneys, vents, specific appliances, and gaseous hydrogen systems. This course will cover the most current code updates and is approved by the Jefferson County Code Enforcement Commission, for PEU (Professional Education Units) credit, which will count toward the required 12 PEUs per licensing cycle. NOTE: This course is worth 12 Contact Hours and a total of 6 PEUs (Professional Education Units), as approved by the Jefferson Country Code Enforcement Commission. 

Meet HVAC Your Instructor:  Bill Kaune
Director, Jefferson College HVAC Program

Bill Kaune is a 1976 graduate of Jefferson College. He worked for Laclede Gas for thirty-three years; first as a commercial service technician, and ten years as a supervisor. Mr. Kaune began teaching at Jefferson College in 2000 as an adjunct instructor, and became a full-time instructor in 2010. He has initiated many new courses and modified existing ones to meet industry demands. His HVAC Program was awarded the HVAC Excellence Accreditation in 2013.
