A+ Program

The A+ Scholarship Program provides scholarship funds to eligible graduates of A+ designated high schools who attend a participating public community college or vocational/technical school, or certain private two-year vocational/technical schools. The information on this page is effective for the 2022-2023 academic year, unless otherwise noted.

How to use your A+ Scholarship at Jefferson College:

  1. File a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) annually*;
  2. Complete an application for admission;
  3. Submit a final high school transcript with the official A+ Seal to the Admissions Office;
  4. If transferring from another postsecondary institution, submit official transcript(s) and complete the A+ Reinstatement Request;
  5. Submit any additional FAFSA Verification documents as requested by the college;
  6. Be seeking a certificate or degree at Jefferson College;
  7. Register and attend full-time; full-time is defined as:
                    -    12 or more credit hours, fall and spring semester
                    -    6 credit hours, if you choose to enroll in summer semester

* If a student qualifies for federal grant funds such as the Pell Grant, those funds will be applied to eligible tuition and fees first. A+ will pay remaining tuition and eligible fees not covered by the Pell Grant.

Maintaining A+ Eligibility

A+ eligibility is reviewed at the end of each semester. To remain eligible students must meet the following requirements:

  • File a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) annually
  • Complete 12 credit hours or more during each regular semester and 6 credit hours or more if enrolled in summer semester; if a student has been approved for a reduced course load, the student must complete all courses for which the student is enrolled for the semester.
  • Maintain a 2.5 cumulative grade point average and otherwise maintain satisfactory academic progress
    • If this is the first academic year in which you have received an A+ payment, you are not subject to the renewal 2.5 minimum GPA requirement but you must achieve at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average by the end of the fall term.

What does the A+ Scholarship pay for?

  • Tuition (2022-2023 max rate $196.00 per credit hour)
  • Technology Fees
  • Activity Fees

What is not covered by the A+ Scholarship?

  • Lab Fees, program specific fees, course supplies, uniforms, textbook costs, and miscellaneous expenses such as parking and graduation fees
  • Courses not covered by A+
    • Repeat coursework in which a grade was received
      • Repeat coursework will count toward meeting the full-time credit hour requirement if they count towards your declared degree
    • Coursework that does not count toward the completion of the student’s declared degree
    • Courses that are in excess of 105% of student’s declared degree

How long does the A+ Scholarship last?

  • 48 months after the graduation date documented on your high school transcript
    • Students providing service to any branch of the U.S. armed forces can defer their eligibility (contact the Financial Aid Office for additional information)
  • Receipt of an associate degree
  • Completion of 105% of the hours required for the program in which you are currently enrolled

Participation and Enrollment Requirements for A+ Scholarship

Participation

  • Students must begin attendance in courses for them to be considered in their financial aid enrollment level. If at any point in the semester the student is reported as a no-show in any course which reduces the student’s status to less than full-time; A+ funding for the semester will be lost

Withdrawn Coursework

  • If a student withdraws from a course after the refund period, the student is responsible for repaying the cost of the course, since A+ requires completion of all coursework*

*Unless the withdrawal results in the student failing to meet the A+ completion requirement (12 credit hours or more during each regular semester and 6 credit hours or more during summer term), then the student will not be responsible for the cost of the withdrawn course, but will lose A+ for the subsequent semester.

Reinstatement of A+ Eligibility

Students who fall under the following categories can request to have their A+ Scholarship reinstated if they are meeting all  A+ eligibility requirements:

  • A+ students who utilized federal grant funds instead of A+ for a previous term
  • Students who transferred from another institution
  • A student who was denied A+ for failing to meet the A+ completion requirement may receive another A+ tuition reimbursement following the enrollment period after the student successfully completes the REMAINING number of credit hours required for the term in which the student lost eligibility.  For example, if the student previously completed 9 out of 12 credit hours, therefore losing A+, he/she must finish 3 more hours in a future term to equal 12 credit hours to be reconsidered for A+ eligibility
  • A student who lost A+ due to GPA but now has a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher
  • A student who was previously not making satisfactory academic progress, but now is

To be considered for A+ reinstatement, submit an A+ Request for Reinstatement.
