Adult Learners at Jefferson College

NOW IS THE PERFECT TIME TO START, OR FINISH, YOUR DEGREE!

As an adult learner at Jefferson College, you bring a wealth of life experience and knowledge to the campus.

Most people would probably picture the average college student as a recent high school graduate who lives on campus and pays for their education with help from their parents. But this is not the case for many of our students! Did you know that the average age of a Jefferson College student is 22?

JEFFERSON COLLEGE RECOGNIZES THE KEY CHALLENGES FACING ADULT LEARNERS

Balancing School, Life, and Work

Finding the time to work, attend classes, take care of children, study, and sleep — all within 24 hours — can feel impossible for busy adult learners.  That is why Jefferson College takes pride in offering you flexible schedules, AAS Degrees and Certificate options that take you straight from classroom to a career, partnerships with four-year universities that allow you to continue your education, as well as many online and hybrid options. We are committed to your academic success every step of the way.

Financing a College Education

Like many students right out of high school, adult learners often worry about whether they can afford a college education.  Those with children or other family members to care for may find it especially difficult to pay for their education. Jefferson College is one of the most cost-effective choices among Missouri colleges and universities, offering an outstanding value and many financial assistance opportunities.  In addition to federal and state grants, we offer many Jefferson College specific scholarships.  We also encourage you to search the web for additional resources created just for adult learners.

Lack of Support

Let’s face it - adult students can face many obstacles! Jefferson College is committed to providing you with a welcoming and supportive environment! You can get to know other adult students by joining a student group.  If you are concerned about childcare, we have you covered!  With Jefferson College’s Child Development Center, both you and your child can be on campus at the same time.  If you need a part-time job while attending school, contact our Workforce and Employment Services Office for help writing resumes, networking, and employment opportunities. You can also check out opportunities to work on campus.
