Will Dual Credit courses transfer?
The Missouri Higher Education Core Curriculum Transfer Act (SB 997) guarantees that courses with a MOTR designation (denoted with the MOTR symbol in the Jefferson College Catalog and the online Jefferson College class schedule) will transfer to any public college or university in Missouri. A core curriculum consisting of a 42 credit hour block will transfer as a whole to all public institutions of higher education in the state. No additional general education courses are necessary upon completion of a CORE42 block.
Many other institutions accept transfer credit from community colleges, including Dual Credit. Students should always check with the institution they plan to attend after high school graduation in order to determine how many, and which, courses transfer to that particular institution.
What is the difference between Dual Credit, Dual Enrollment, and Articulated Credit?
Dual Credit is college credit that is awarded by the cooperating institution for college level coursework taught at the high school by the high school instructor. This credit is usually transferable to other Missouri institutions of higher education and appears on the student’s Jefferson College transcript.
Dual Enrollment is college credit that is awarded by the cooperating institution for college level coursework that is taught by the college instructor. This credit is usually transferable to other Missouri institutions of higher education and appears on the student’s Jefferson College transcript.
Articulated credit is an agreement between the high school and Jefferson College to accept student high school coursework as an equivalent course as the student enters Jefferson College. Since this credit does not meet the requirements of Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development Dual Credit, this coursework is not transferable to other institutions. In some cases, the course may serve as a qualifying prerequisite but will not appear as college credit on a transcript.
*Students should check with their school counselor to determine if Dual Enrollment or Area Technical School coursework will be accepted for high school credit.

How can I learn more about placement testing?

Questions regarding student ACCUPLACER testing, including those regarding establishing or modifying on-site ACCUPLACER testing institutional agreements, should be directed to Connie Nash, Director of Academic Services, at (636) 481-3170 or cnash@hotelparacaes.net.
Can I retake or appeal my placement test scores?
Students may take the ACCUPLACER placement test twice in a 90 day period. Though the first test is free for students, there is a $12.00 retest fee for every subsequent attempt. Students should pay the retest fee at the Cashier’s Office before returning to the Testing Center to retest.
Should a student wish to appeal their English placement, they should contact Jaclyn Birks, Early College Coordinator at (636) 481-3316 or jbirks@hotelparacaes.net to discuss options for a writing examination to be evaluated by Jefferson College English faculty.
Reading placement scores can be appealed by completing an alternate assessment to be evaluated by Jefferson College Reading faculty. To begin this process, contact Jaclyn Birks, Early College Coordinator at (636) 481-3216 or jbirks@hotelparacaes.net.
ACT test score appeals should be made per ACT guidelines.
All appeal processes must be complete before the start of the semester or session in which the student wishes to enroll.
Can I get financial aid for Dual Credit or Dual Enrollment classes?
Early College courses are offered at a significantly reduced rate due to partnership agreements in place with cooperating school districts.
Students taking courses through the Early College programs are not eligible for financial aid through the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Beginning with the Spring 2022 semester, students can apply for a Dual Credit/Dual Enrollment Scholarship through the Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development.
Students should be advised that poor grades in college courses can affect future eligibility for financial aid after high school graduation, including the A+ scholarship. How do I get a Jefferson College student ID?
Students need a driver's license, state issued ID, or high school ID with a photo and a print out of their class schedule (found in MyJeffco) to have a Jefferson College student ID made. IDs can be obtained at the Enrollment Services counter or the Library at the Hillsboro campus or at the Enrollment Services counter at the Arnold campus.
What if I want to drop or withdraw from a class?
If a student wants to remove a class from his or her schedule, the class must be dropped before the drop deadline. If the drop deadline has passed, a "W" is placed on the student's official transcript and class costs can no longer be refunded. Students cannot withdraw from a course once the deadline has passed for withdrawal, and the student's transcript will reflect the final grade earned for that course. Deadlines for adding, dropping, or withdrawing a course can be found at the bottom of the How To Apply page. Please be aware that these dates supersede all other add, drop, and withdrawal deadlines.
